Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili dismissed as “disinformation and manipulation” allegations that Georgia has stopped its path toward European Union membership. She said such claims are “a lie” and are being used for political purposes.
According to Bochorishvili, Georgia has never paused its European integration efforts and has deliberately refrained from turning EU aspirations into a tool of political confrontation.
“They have twisted everything to make it appear as though Georgia halted the dialogue,” she said. “In reality, the dialogue had already been stopped long before the statement they are referring to was issued—back in June. There are letters in which Kaya Kallas, directly from the EU side, confirms that they suspended dialogue with the Georgian government. They have not spoken to Georgia since the legitimate parliament adopted the laws.”
Bochorishvili stressed that it was Brussels that froze communication in June 2024, yet months later criticism shifted toward the Georgian government for decisions taken by the EU itself.
She also commented on recent political tensions following the elections, noting that protests framed as pro-democracy actions began only afterwards. “We must not allow the foundations to be distorted or the history we witnessed to be rewritten,” she added.
