Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States, on Monday at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva to discuss key aspects of Georgia-Holy See relations. They highlighted the significance of high-level bilateral visits and the Holy See's historical role in promoting European values in Georgia.
Botchorishvili briefed Gallagher on the situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions and stressed the importance of the Geneva International Discussions, a platform for dialogue between Georgian agencies and de facto authorities in occupied areas. She expressed gratitude for the Holy See’s continued support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The discussion also covered Georgia's current developments, regional security, and its EU integration process. Botchorishvili expressed concern for Pope Francis’s health, recognizing his contribution to global peace and extending best wishes for his recovery.
