The Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili expressed confidence that circumstances could “change very soon and opportunities may emerge” for normalizing her Government’s relations with its Western partners.
Botchorishvili acknowledged that the Government was “not satisfied with the current state of relations” with the European Union and the United States.
The Minister also addressed allegations made by parliamentary groups in the German Bundestag, accusing them of spreading “false information” regarding a long-term monitoring mission by the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which was reportedly denied entry to Georgia during the parliamentary elections last October.
Botchorishvili emphasized that the direction of future relations would depend on the choices of Georgia’s partners: whether they seek to understand the truth and restore normal relations, or whether they continue to perpetuate an “alternative reality” through disinformation and misleading narratives.
“This also serves a purpose,” she remarked, noting that the current state of relations was unsatisfactory for all parties involved.
She further asserted that the Georgian Government remained “deeply convinced” that the situation could improve, and that a new set of circumstances could emerge to enable the normalization of relations, ultimately restoring the framework necessary for their partnership.
