
On May 27, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, met the delegation of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), who is visiting Georgia. At the meeting, the parties welcomed the positive dynamics of development of cooperation between Georgia and CPLP countries. They emphasized the fact that this year marks the 10th anniversary of Georgia becoming an associate observer of the Community.
The parties also reviewed the prospects of deepening relations with the member states of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, including within the framework of the United Nations. Ilia Darchiashvili noted that the development of partnerships on a global scale is one of the main priorities of Georgia's foreign policy.
The conversation touched on the difficult humanitarian situation in the occupied territories of Georgia. The head of the Foreign Ministry thanked the members of the delegation for their unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and for pursuing a policy of non-recognition and emphasized the importance of the support of the international community in this regard.
The delegation of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries is scheduled to stay in Georgia within May 25-28 in order to hold the meetings with representatives of the legislative and executive authorities. In addition, the members of the delegation arrived in the village of Khurvaleti, where they got acquainted with the situation at the occupation line. They also attended the military oath-taking ceremony held in connection with Georgia's Independence Day.
CPLP unites nine countries, while Georgia joined as an associate observer in 2014.
