The actions of Europe’s current bureaucracy toward Georgia lack pragmatism and fail to serve Europe’s interests—both in its relations with Georgia and on a global scale, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said.
She described the situation as deeply troubling, noting that European institutions are not only neglecting Georgia’s interests but also undermining Europe’s own strategic priorities. According to Botchorishvili, this approach is damaging relations with partner countries, including Georgia.
“Georgia needs the European Union, but the European Union also needs Georgia—especially when it comes to security and economic interests,” she said, adding that the double standards applied toward Georgia by European bureaucracy are entirely unconstructive and non-pragmatic.
Commenting briefly on a journalist’s question regarding the United States’ decision to impose sanctions on a former European Commissioner and four other individuals, Botchorishvili said simply: “I sympathize.”
