As part of the visit to the United States of America, the Minister of Finance of Georgia, Lasha Khutsishvili and the President of the National Bank, Koba Gvenetadze, held meetings with the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, Paul Hilbers, the Head of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Head of the Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund, Vitor Gaspar.
The meetings were attended by the Deputy Finance Ministers Ekaterine Guntsadze and Mirza Gelashvili, as well as the Vice President of the National Bank Archil Mestvirishvili.
Paul Hilbers emphasized the cooperation between Georgia and the International Monetary Fund in the direction of supporting the country's macroeconomic stability and structural reforms. Attention was focused on fiscal and monetary policy issues for 2022-2023 and the medium-term period.
During the meeting with the head of the Middle East and Central Asia Department, it was noted that the progress achieved by Georgia last year and this year, against the background of the reduction of the global economic growth forecast by the IMF, provides the basis for the country to maintain the positive dynamics of further economic growth.
At the meeting with the Head of the Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund, the conversation touched on the issues of cooperation between the International Monetary Fund and the Ministry of Finance in the direction of public finance accounting, accountability and transparency, as well as fiscal risk management, tax and customs administration.
