Within one month, viewers will see 30 Georgian films. The program includes both classic and modern films. To discuss this issue, the Georgian National Film Center hosted the representative of the Embassy of Japan, Yasuhiro Kojima.
The Georgian Film Festival was held for the first time in 2018 and was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia and the 110th anniversary of the Georgian cinema.
The curator of the festival is Mr. Takehide Harada, who is a great friend of Georgia and has written a book on the Georgian cinematographer. For years, he has directed one of the best cinemas in Tokyo - Ivanami-Hall, where the retrospectives of the Georgian films had been repeatedly arranged. Harada has visited the Tbilisi International Film Festival several times to select the Georgian films.
The director of the Georgian National Film Center, Gaga Chkheidze and Yasuhiro Kojima discussed the possibility of repeating the festival in other cities or regions of Japan. The cities of Kyoto, Osaka, Yokohama and Takasaki have already expressed a desire to host a retrospective.
