
The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, held a working meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia, Peter Fischer, where the parties discussed implemented and ongoing projects in the field of professional education, the issues of deepening cooperation and future plans.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli thanked the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany for his support to the education system of Georgia and noted that in recent years, a number of important and large-scale projects had been implemented with the support of the German government.
The Minister particularly singled out the fruitful cooperation between Georgia and Germany in the direction of professional education development, as part of which, with the active involvement of the private sector, new professional standards were created, while taking the best international practices into account, a new approach to the financing of professional education was prepared, which provides for a financing model based on the results of institutions.
In his speech, the Minister emphasized the importance of establishing a professional skills agency and noted that since 2021, Georgia had introduced an unprecedented and completely innovative management model in the education system - the Vocational Skills Agency was established through a private-public partnership, which is managed by seven large unions of employers together with representatives of the public sector.
The discussion at the meeting also touched upon the support of the internationalization of professional education and the promotion of the development of centers of excellence (CoE) and international schools, which will help attract foreign students. The parties noted that within the framework of the partnership of the Ministry and the German Reconstruction Credit Institute (KfW), active work continues in the direction of the development of two new centers of international level - Telavi Wine School and Dusheti Tourism School. Also, with the support of the German government, the so-called transport/logistics and construction direction - the process of developing the Center of Excellence - is actively being carried out in Tbilisi.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli also drew attention to the existing partnership with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and said that it was with the support of GIZ that the dual model of German education was introduced to the vocational education system of Georgia, which is successfully being implemented and developed today.
On his part, Peter Fischer thanked Mikheil Chkhenkeli for the fruitful cooperation and once again expressed his readiness to support the education system of Georgia. During his speech, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany drew attention to the prospects of implementing new joint initiatives in the field of professional education.
