The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili took part in the work of the session of the Moldovan-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation.
As the Ministry reports, before the session of the commission, the Georgian Economy Minister held a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization of the Republic of Moldova Dumitru Alaiba.
"The heads of the economic agencies of Georgia and Moldova spoke about the issues of trade and economic ties between the two countries and the deepening of sectoral relations in this regard. As it was mentioned during the meeting, there are multifaceted perspectives of development in this regard, the realization of which will be important and successful for both countries.
The meeting of the intergovernmental economic commission of the two countries is being held for the second time - the first time it was held in Tbilisi in 2017. This time, the meeting in Moldova was chaired by the Vice Prime Minister/Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili from the side of Georgia, and the Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization of the Republic of Moldova Dumitru Alaiba from the host side.
As mentioned at the meeting, the commission is an important and effective platform for the development and deepening of economic relations between the partner countries. This is evidenced by the fact that within the framework of the commission, negotiations were held between Georgia and Moldova in a number of important trade and economic areas, including: bilateral economic relations, trade, agriculture, infrastructure, transport, energy, communications, technologies, culture, tourism, etc. Therefore, in the future, relations between the two countries will include a wide range of cooperation and development opportunities in these sectors.
In addition, the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia emphasized the international, geopolitical situation and the context within which Georgia and Moldova are working towards deepening economic relations - in particular, this is a common foreign political aspiration, which implies joining the European Union.
During the session of the commission, the head of both sides emphasized the important contribution of the business environment to the economic development of each country. In addition, it was noted that foreign direct investments are vital for economic growth, and therefore, both countries are interested in increasing the volume of investments in both Georgia and Moldova. Levan Davitashvili informed his Moldovan colleague about the reliable, liberal business and investment environment in Georgia. He also spoke about economic growth, transport and infrastructure projects in Georgia. Levan Davitashvili invited the Moldovan delegation to the "Silk Road Forum" planned for October 26-27, 2023 in Tbilisi.
The next session of the Moldovan-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation will be held in Tbilisi," the Ministry states.
