
The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili met with the Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, who is paying an official visit to Georgia.
Reportedly, the main directions of bilateral trade and economic cooperation were discussed at the meeting; the importance of signing a free trade agreement between the countries, which will cover trade in goods, rules of origin and procedures of origin, customs administration and trade promotion, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers, trade protection measures, investment, trade in services, digital trade and many other issues was especially emphasized.
"It was noted that bilateral trade between Georgia and the Emirates is characterized by increasing dynamics - in January 2023, exports increased by 132 percent, and in 2022, by 51 percent.
As it was said at the meeting, the implementation of the agreement would have a positive impact on the dynamics of trade and would additionally pave the way for Georgian producers to the 10-million-strong market of the United Arab Emirates.
The conversation also touched on deepening cooperation in tourism, investments and other sectors.
Levan Davitashvili and the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi will also open a bilateral business forum and sign a joint statement on the completion of negotiations on a free trade agreement, which has been ongoing since March 15 in Tbilisi.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Economy Minister Genadi Arveladze and Ambassador of Georgia to the United Arab Emirates Paata Kalandadze.
