
“The Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili met with the members of the US Chamber of Commerce and briefed them on the Georgian government's economic policy priorities, current and further reforms, and economic trends,” - the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reported.
According to the Ministry, the focus was on bilateral economic relations between the United States and Georgia. The union is the largest international chamber of business in Georgia and includes more than 200 companies.
As the Deputy Prime Minister said, the United States, as a key strategic partner, has always supported Georgia in many areas. "We will do our best to take this strategic partnership to a qualitatively new level. This is one of the top priorities of Georgia's foreign policy. We want to reaffirm our desire to expand and deepen our economic relations, grow and develop trade and investment ties with the United States," Levan Davitashvili said.
Levan Davitashvili said the Georgian economy had proven its institutional strength, macroeconomic stability and resilience to significant economic and financial shocks. He said that in recent years, the government had continued to be active in attracting investors and supporting the competitiveness of the private sector, which had contributed to GDP growth, and in 2018-2021 it averaged 6%, which was one of the highest rates among such economies.
According to Levan Davitashvili, the main direction of Georgia's economic policy is to strengthen economic relations with the European Union and the United States. He said, in 2021, the trade turnover between Georgia and the United States increased by 31% and amounted to $ 830.6 million. “At the same time, the conclusion of a free trade agreement with the United States would be a clear message of increasing the US economic interests in our region, including Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration aspirations and further support for economic development, trade diversification needs. I hope that more American companies will be interested in Georgia's liberal business environment, as well as in business incentive programs implemented by the Government of Georgia with the assistance of the Enterprise Georgia Agency,” – the Minister stated.
After the presentation, a discussion took place. The Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze and Irakli Nadareishvili also answered the questions asked by the businessmen, who came to the meeting.
