“Georgia and Japan share a very friendly, partnership, mutually beneficial cooperation, and the efforts of the authorities of both countries to further strengthen this relationship should be emphasized,” - said Levan Davitashvili during the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Parliamentary Vice Minister Yoshikawa Yuumi.
Levan Davitashvili thanked the Japanese government for its support and noted that Japan was one of the first states that recognized Georgia's independence back in 1918 and supported its sovereignty. According to him, Georgia is interested in deepening cooperation with Japan, for which it is actively using all platforms and tools that will contribute to the strengthening of economic and trade ties.
At the meeting, along with various economic issues, the parties discussed the progress of the Anaklia deep-water port project and the benefits that the launch of the port will bring not only to Georgia, but also to the countries of the region, including the creation of thousands of new jobs, the improvement of the social and economic conditions of the local population, increasing the competitiveness of the transport corridor passing through Georgia, attracting new cargo flows and developing production and logistics services near the port.
The Economy Minister, together with the Japanese side, also discussed the Black Sea submarine cable project, the development of which is of the utmost importance for Georgia's energy security, and spoke about renewable energy policy, which, according to Levan Davitashvili, is one of the priorities in the Georgian government's action plans. The Minister briefed the guests on the vision of the Georgian government, the reforms and the projects implemented in the field of energy. As it was mentioned at the meeting, Japanese companies show great interest in making investments in Georgian energy and creating and developing joint projects, including the Anaklia deep-water port project.
The meeting also emphasized the trade and economic relations of the two countries and the progress achieved in this regard these years - according to the data of three months of 2023, the trade turnover between Georgia and Japan has increased by 62%, and in 2022, the increase is 57%. Good growth trends are also recorded in the statistical indicators of direct investments and tourism.
