The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Romeo Mikautadze, participated in the meeting with investors, during which the procedures for holding auctions under the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme were discussed. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) participated in the organization of the meeting. Representatives of companies and business associations working in the energy sector attended the meeting.
In his speech, the First Deputy Minister attached special importance to the energy development in the process of economic growth of the country. According to him, for Georgia, the economy of which is developing steadily, the sustainable growth of its energy capabilities is of the utmost importance.
“The country has a great potential of renewable energy resources, the utilization of which is a priority of the government's economic policy. The government's ambitious plans aimed at the development of large energy projects are both the utilization of local energy resources and the construction of the Black Sea submarine electricity cable, which will connect Georgia and the entire South Caucasus region to the European Union. All this will increase the quality of energy security of the country,” - Romeo Mikautadze stated.
The First Deputy Minister thanked the USAID for the support that this organization is interested in the development of Georgia's energy capabilities.
The Director of the USAID mission in Georgia, John Pennell, also gave a speech at the meeting. After the official reports, the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia gave a presentation to the participants of the meeting about the support scheme for the production and use of energy from renewable sources and the rules of the capacity auction.
