
The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Genadi Arveladze is participating in the meeting of the Steering Committee on Trade Capacity and Standards within the framework of UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe).
In his speech, the Deputy Minister talked about the main trends of Georgian trade, liberal trade legislation and effective customs regulations. Genadi Arveladze drew attention to the reforms that Georgia has implemented or is implementing within the framework of the obligations assumed by the agreement on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) with the European Union.
According to the Deputy Minister, one of the main goals of the Georgian government is to support the private sector and increase their competitiveness.
The Deputy Minister singled out the government programs that help local entrepreneurs to enter export markets and diversify, as well as identify sectors and products with export potential and stimulate international sales.
Genadi Arveladze also focused on the creation of the e-learning platform e-Academy, which will serve small and medium-sized businesses in raising awareness of standardization issues. According to him, the Georgian National Agency For Standards And Metrology has already signed memorandums with several universities and educational institutions to conduct awareness raising trainings for representatives of small and medium businesses.
The Deputy Minister also spoke about the ongoing and already carried out works in the field of transport and logistics of Georgia, the purpose of which is to develop the transit potential of the country and promote trade.
In conclusion, Genadi Arveladze thanked the UNECE team for facilitating the exchange of information between the countries and continued work to strengthen the institutional and legislative framework to ensure further integration in regional and global supply chains.
