The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Guram Guramishvili met with the Romanian Consul, Marius Pandelea, and discussed the issues of cooperation with him in the field of transport and postal services. The General Director of JSC Georgian Post, Levan Chikvaidze, also participated in the meeting.
The focus was on the partnership between Georgia and Romania, which promotes the development of transport traffic in the Black Sea region, as well as trade and investment cooperation.
Emphasis was placed on the importance of the continuous and uninterrupted operation of postal services in terms of the supply of humanitarian cargo to Ukraine. According to the Deputy Minister, as of April 1, 2022, Georgia transported 400 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which is more than the donations sent from other European countries. Moreover, Georgia was named among the 14 countries that allow individuals and legal entities to send free postal items (parcels) to Ukraine to their intended recipients.
According to Guram Guramishvili, Georgia, including the Georgian Post, will continue to supply humanitarian cargo to Ukraine.
It should be noted that by the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, the first humanitarian cargo was sent to Ukraine in February. Also, by the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, with the involvement of the state representatives of all regions of the country and the Department of Government Relations with regions, humanitarian cargo was collected throughout Georgia and sent to Ukraine a few weeks ago. The Parliament of Georgia, the Tbilisi City Hall, the Patriarchate of Georgia and the National Food Agency collected and sent humanitarian aid to Ukraine in order to help the Ukrainians. In addition, at the initiative of the government, the Agency "Enterprise Georgia" launched the Produce for Ukraine campaign, in which the products of various needs produced by the Georgian companies or purchased by them were sent to Ukraine in three stages.
