
Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Genadi Arveladze met with representatives from Austria’s leading electricity company, Verbund, during his working visit to Austria. They discussed Georgia's energy sector trends, investment environment, and protection mechanisms.
Arveladze highlighted the importance of Georgia as a key country connecting Asian and European markets and emphasized the significance of strategic projects, such as the Black Sea submarine cable, which will deliver green energy from the South Caucasus to the EU. Verbund expressed interest in conducting a study visit to Georgia in May or June to explore its energy sector.
Arveladze noted the importance of modernizing Georgia’s energy infrastructure to improve efficiency and sustainability, and acknowledged Verbund's experience as valuable in this regard. Verbund’s Achim Kaspar highlighted the similarities between Georgia and Austria in hydropower and expressed interest in further discussions. Kaspar also praised Georgia's efforts to support energy development and attract foreign investors.
