The Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held under the auspices of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations, has opened in Geneva, bringing together parliamentary leaders from around the world.
Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, emphasized the importance of the forum for Georgia’s diplomatic outreach.
“Our delegation always uses this platform to engage with countries that are geographically distant from Georgia and with whom we do not have regular contact,” Samkharadze stated.
He noted that the Georgian delegation uses such high-level meetings to discuss bilateral relations and promote Georgia’s policy of non-recognition of Russian-occupied territories.
On the first day of the conference, the Georgian delegation held a meeting with the Speaker of the Slovak Parliament.
“We discussed bilateral relations, shared perspectives on internal political developments in both countries, and addressed Slovakia’s continued support for Georgia’s European integration,” Samkharadze reported.
He also raised concerns over misinterpretations by some EU member states regarding the political situation in Georgia, which he said could hinder the country’s EU integration efforts.
“The conversation was cordial, and Slovakia reaffirmed its support for Georgia’s European aspirations. Our partnership will continue moving forward,” he concluded.
