
During the meeting, the sides discussed the reforms and priorities implemented within the framework of defense transformation, as well as paid special attention to the main areas of NATO-Georgia cooperation, including the implementation of the Black Sea Security and the renewed Substantial NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP) initiatives. The issues related to NATO's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the importance of the Alliance 's practical assistance in facilitating the effective implementation of defense reforms and strengthening interoperability with NATO were stressed at the meeting. The NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia noted the invaluable contribution of Georgian military personnel to NATO-led missions in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Georgia's significant role in successfully ensuring the transit and evacuation process for the Allies from Afghanistan.
The meeting was attended by First Deputy Defense Minister Lela Chikovani, Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia Ms. Rosaria Puglisi, Head of the NATO-Georgia essential package, Colonel Norbert Hess, and other officials.
Spanish diplomat Javier Colomina was appointed NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia in September 2021. Prior to that, he was Spain's Deputy Permanent Representative to NATO. Javier Colomina has replaced his predecessor, James Appathurai, as NATO Secretary-General's Special Representative.
