The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has successfully completed the construction of a world-class ice arena in Tbilisi. According to the Ministry, the Tbilisi Ice Arena is slated to host the 2025 European Youth Winter Olympics in February.
This advanced facility boasts a 60-by-30-meter ice rink and accommodates up to 700 spectators. It includes essential amenities such as training and choreography rooms, rest areas, medical facilities, makeup rooms, conference rooms, locker rooms, and restrooms. A café offering a panoramic view of the rink and ample parking space are also available.
Equipped with a state-of-the-art cooling system that meets international standards, the arena ensures optimal temperature control for the ice surface while regulating humidity and heating in the spectator area. Additionally, the rink features two scoreboards and a comprehensive lighting system. The facility is fully accessible to individuals with disabilities.
The ice arena is designed to support various sports, including hockey, figure skating, and curling. It is also equipped with two ice resurfacing and polishing machines. Specialized insulated flooring allows the venue to host summer sports and other events, such as basketball, mini-football, and handball, without affecting the ice quality.
The installation and equipping of the arena with cutting-edge technology meeting international standards were carried out by a Czech company. Design and construction began in December 2023, with a state budget allocation of GEL 29.2 million.
In addition to the ice arena, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has completed the construction of a biathlon field and a 3.5 km ski racing track in Bakuriani, as part of preparations for the 2025 European Youth Winter Festival. This event will take place across Tbilisi, Bakuriani, and Batumi.
The opening of the ice arena was attended by Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, and other government officials.
