
Lasha Abashidze, Director General of Georgian Railways, and Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways, currently visiting Georgia, toured the new port of Poti and the upgraded infrastructure of Batumi Seaport.
According to Georgian Railways, the railway chiefs, along with their delegations, personally inspected the facilities. Port representatives presented the capacities of the terminals and the ongoing modernisation efforts.
According to the Georgian Railways, both sides stressed the importance of synchronising ports and railway operations to facilitate increased cargo flow along the Middle Corridor route.
“The efficient functioning of Georgia’s railway and port infrastructure is vital for the continued development of the Middle Corridor. We are dedicated to enhancing services for cargo owners, and through improved coordination and infrastructure, we aim to increase freight transportation, thereby generating greater revenue for Georgian Railways. Our goal is to boost cargo volumes on the Middle Corridor and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars routes, positively impacting the country’s economy,” said the Director General of Georgian Railways.
Georgia’s ports of Poti and Batumi have reportedly seen increased cargo traffic in 2025, according to official statistics.
