As part of the Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS) of the United States of America, the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia handed over three X-Ray luggage scanners (RAPISCAN 628XR), the total value of which is $300,000. According to the Revenue Service, the delivered scanners are intended for Batumi and Kutaisi airports, as well as for the Kazbegi customs checkpoint.
"It should be noted that one of the directions of the US government's assistance is to equip the customs infrastructure of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance and strengthen the inspection systems. The US Ambassador Kelly Degnan, together with the head of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, Zurab Sichinava, the head of the International Relations Department, Samson Uridia, and other responsible persons of the agency, personally got acquainted with the process of scanning the baggage imported/departed by air at the customs checkpoint Batumi Airport.
Today, we donated a new, American-made, X-ray unit for rapid baggage scanning to Batumi Airport. Similar models will also be handed over to Kutaisi Airport and Larsi Port of Entry. This assistance is part of our multi-year and large-scale efforts to contribute to the protection and security of Georgia's border,” – the Revenue Service stated.
