The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development announced that, by order of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgian Railways will provide a one-time, free rail transit of Azerbaijani fuel to Armenia.
The statement follows reports in Azerbaijani media claiming that high Georgian tariffs were obstructing fuel transportation. According to the Ministry, Georgia received a request on December 5 for the transit, and the Prime Minister immediately instructed Georgian Railways to transport the cargo at no cost. Officials in both partner countries have been informed of the decision.
The Ministry emphasized that Georgia remains a strategic and reliable partner to both Armenia and Azerbaijan and continues to support regional peace and cooperation.
Azerbaijani outlets had reported that Georgia proposed a tariff of $92 per ton for a 111-km route—far higher than comparable domestic rates in Azerbaijan—suggesting the price was intentionally inflated.
