The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) has been unanimously elected to preside over the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) for the 2026–2027 term. The decision was made during ICPEN’s international conference, held in Washington from May 12–16.
“This is a meaningful recognition for both the GCCA and our country,” said GCCA Chair Irakli Lekvinadze, addressing the conference. “Since the adoption of consumer protection legislation in 2022, we’ve implemented important standards that have improved market behavior and strengthened consumer rights. Georgia’s active engagement in ICPEN working groups has prepared us for this leadership role.”
During its presidency, Georgia will focus on three key priorities:
-
Fostering international cooperation for sharing best practices and establishing global standards;
-
Strengthening consumer protection in digital markets;
-
Supporting youth-focused consumer protection bodies by partnering them with more experienced agencies.
ICPEN is a global network of consumer protection authorities that promotes cross-border cooperation and dispute resolution in international commerce. The organization includes approximately 90 countries, along with observer institutions such as the World Bank, UNCTAD, OECD, and the European Commission. Georgia officially joined ICPEN in 2023.
