"Georgia will host its first celebrations of World Tourism Day on September 27," - the United Nations World Tourism Organization said through its social media.
The event will gather “high-level” visitors from across the world, with officials from ministries of tourism, representatives of international organizations and field specialists visiting the country.
The UNWTO highlighted the main message of this year’s occasion was peace.
"Pave the way for a peaceful tomorrow through the journeys we take today. For World Tourism Day 2024, let’s reflect on the role of tourism as an agent of peace. In Georgia, on September 27, we can turn tourism into a force for conflict resolution and global harmony by embracing cultural exchange, sustainable tourism, and dialogue”, it said.
The Georgian National Tourism Administration is set to offer sightseeing trips to participants, including wine, gastronomy and architecture tours.
The decision to grant the country the hosting right of the date was unanimously approved by 38 members of the European Commission of the WTO in spring of 2023.
The Organisation has marked the annual date since 1979.
