
Georgia hasGeorgia’s Ministry of Health will finance the treatment of children from the regions who suffer from congenital heart defects at Geneva University Hospital.
According to the Ministry, surgeries that cannot be performed in Georgia but are recommended by a medical commission and relevant specialists will be covered under the state referral service program starting in 2026. The program will involve advanced medical technologies and highly qualified personnel.
Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze held a meeting with Tornike Sologhashvili, a pediatric cardiac surgeon based in Switzerland and Medical Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Department at Geneva University Hospital.
Sarjveladze noted that by joining international children’s cardiac surgery conventions, the Ministry expanded the program’s geographical scope, making the service available to children under the age of 18 throughout the country.
The meeting also focused on future cooperation opportunities and the importance of sharing professional experience. Deputy Health Minister Irine Tsakadze also attended the meeting.
