“Ten sports facilities have been built or renovated across Georgia for hosting the UEFA European Under-21 Championship this summer,” - the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia stated.
Tbilisi's Mikheil Meskhi and Boris Paichadze stadiums have been renovated for the youth tournament, along with Ramaz Shengelia stadium in the western city of Kutaisi. Training grounds in the capital as well as the western locations of Tskaltubo, Kobuleti and Batumi have also been prepared for the event.
The Government has spent GEL100 million ($39.38mln) on renovating the venues, with the Ministry noting the works were being carried out with the involvement of the UEFA.
"95% of the work is completed. It can be safely said that Georgia will meet not only the UEFA U21 European Championship, but other tournaments with adequate infrastructure”, - the Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze said.
