Georgia will soon strengthen its transportation link with Turkey through the construction of a new 11.4-kilometer highway, designed to replace the existing coastal road and improve traffic flow near the border. A key feature of the project is a 7.6-kilometer tunnel that will bypass several residential areas, significantly reducing congestion and travel time.
Announced today by Georgia’s Department of Highways, an international tender has been launched for the supervision of construction works, with an estimated value of $14 million. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is financing the project, and the supervision services are expected to last 48 months. Interested companies must submit their proposals in English via the ADB website by September 22, 2025.
Project Highlights:
-
Total road length: 11.4 kilometers
-

The highway will begin on the right bank of the Chorokhi River with a new junction and overpass. From there, it will proceed toward Charnali and enter the tunnel. Upon exiting, the road will continue through Sarpi and connect to the Georgia–Turkey border via a new bridge and expanded carriageway.
The strategic project is expected to improve regional connectivity, enhance trade routes, and offer a safer, more efficient transportation corridor between Georgia and Turkey.
