Zaza Lominadze, Chairman of Georgia’s Parliamentary Health Committee, announced that Parliament has approved a major draft law strengthening the country’s drug policy.
Speaking to GPB First Channel, Lominadze said the drug substitution program will now be fully state-funded and free for individuals struggling with addiction. Control of over 40 centers will shift from private to state-run facilities, with the government overseeing all operations.
“Previously, patients paid for treatment. Now, everyone who needs medication will receive it for free,” he stated.
Additionally, the state will take over the import of psychotropic substances, aiming to eliminate private and financial interests in the process. However, sales through pharmacies will remain unchanged.
