The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the ambassadors of Lithuania and Estonia, and the Chargé d'Affaires of Latvia, to express concerns over their governments' statements regarding potential sanctions on Georgian officials amid protests against the suspension of EU accession talks.
The Ministry described these statements as inconsistent with the established partnership framework. It reaffirmed Georgia's commitment to international norms, emphasizing that law enforcement acted within constitutional and international standards to maintain order.
The Ministry also rejected any external influence on sovereign institutions, viewing it as interference in domestic affairs. Additionally, it clarified that the suspension of EU talks and refusal of EU grant support does not signal a halt to Georgia's European integration, but rather aims to prevent speculation.
The foreign office said the Government had reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling the priorities outlined in the Constitution and accelerating the process of European integration as per the Association Agreement signed between the country and the bloc in 2014, dispelling claims that negotiations with the EU have been suspended.
During the meeting, the Ministry expressed hope the parties would return to the traditionally friendly relations between the countries and that cooperation would be based on mutual respect.
