“China has become one of Georgia’s principal trading partners,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the opening ceremony of the China International Import Expo.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the implementation of the free trade agreement in January 2018, which covers nearly 95% of Georgian exports, has transformed the country’s trade landscape and significantly boosted trade volumes.
“In the first nine months of 2025 alone, trade turnover reached USD 1.6 billion, marking a remarkable 15% increase. This growth underscores the strength of our bilateral economic relations and highlights the potential for further expansion. China’s ongoing efforts to open its market, combined with broader access to key sectors, provide Georgian businesses with new opportunities to enter global markets and drive innovation,” Kobakhidze noted.
He further highlighted the strategic role of the Middle Corridor, reporting a 71% rise in container transport between China and Georgia from January to August 2025. Cargo volume in 2024 was also fifteen times higher than the previous year, demonstrating the corridor’s rapid growth.
“Georgia remains committed to deepening cooperation along the Middle Corridor to support the expansion of transport flows between China and Europe,” Kobakhidze concluded.
