Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze, has signed a declaration initiating negotiations on the CAREC Trade and Investment Facilitation Partnership Agreement (CARTIF).
According to the Ministry of Economy, the signing took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, during the 24th CAREC Ministerial Conference.
The declaration aims to establish a modern, development-focused partnership that supports the free flow of goods and services across the CAREC region, reduces non-tariff barriers, and boosts digital trade. Negotiations on the CARTIF agreement are set to begin in 2026.
Arveladze welcomed the start of this process, stressing its importance for Georgia.
“One of the priorities of the Georgian government is to diversify export markets and conclude free trade agreements that allow Georgian products and services to enter as many countries as possible on preferential terms. Currently, we have free trade agreements with only part of the CAREC region. Cooperation within the CARTIF framework will significantly help Georgian producers expand their exports to more countries under preferential conditions,” he said.
He added that the CARTIF agreement is designed to facilitate trade among member states, attract investment, and enhance market competitiveness.
During the conference, participants also signed a memorandum focused on developing regional tourism within CAREC. The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation, improve competitiveness, and promote the CAREC region as a unified, high-value tourism destination.
The CAREC Ministerial Conference is held annually and brings together senior representatives from member states to approve strategic plans, discuss initiatives, and address key issues such as project financing.
