Georgian cuisine and wine took center stage at the National Geographic Traveller Food Festival in London, the country’s Tourism Administration reported. This marks Georgia's second appearance at the event.
Maia Omiadze, Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, highlighted the strategic value of the UK market:
“We had a special booth presenting Georgian wine and dishes. These products are very popular among tourists. Since launching direct flights, we’ve seen a 25% increase in UK visitors in the first two quarters. Events like this help raise awareness and attract more tourists.”
The Georgian stand drew significant attention, featuring two masterclasses on Georgian wine led by representatives of the National Wine Agency.
“The festival is ideal for reaching food and wine lovers,” said Irakli Cholobargia, Advisor to the National Wine Agency. “Visitors were especially interested in Georgia’s traditional winemaking methods and ancient heritage.”
Renowned chefs Guram Baghdoshvili and Vakhtang Gobejishvili prepared signature dishes such as Khinkali, Khachapuri, Gebzhalia, and Lobiani, offering attendees a rich taste of Georgian culinary tradition.
Glen Mutel, Editor of National Geographic Traveller, praised Georgia’s deep cultural roots:
“Georgian cuisine is a vital part of its national identity. From mountain villages to city feasts, the Georgian table has stories to tell. Many of our readers are curious about Georgia and want to discover more.”
Visitors also expressed enthusiasm. One attendee noted:
“I attended a Khachapuri masterclass, made it back home in London, and it turned out great. Georgian food is amazing. I’ll definitely return to explore Tbilisi, Batumi, and other beautiful places.”
The festival continues to serve as a valuable platform for Georgia to promote its unique food, wine, and cultural experiences to a global audience.
