Georgia's Foreign Minister, Maka Botchorishvili, underscored the critical importance of U.S.-Georgia relations, emphasizing that the depth of this partnership warrants clear and timely communication from Washington.
“Our relationship with the United States holds great importance for Georgia. Because of that, we expect concrete messages when discussing a reset of our relations and a fair, balanced approach to our country,” Botchorishvili stated.
Her remarks followed the Georgian Prime Minister’s recent open letter addressed to Donald Trump and Senator J.D. Vance. Botchorishvili highlighted that the strategic alliance with the U.S. is not only longstanding but essential to Georgia’s national interests, and requires a well-defined stance from the current and future American leadership.
“Georgia has proven time and again its role as a strategic partner to the United States. The continued implementation of our existing strategic agreement remains vital. However, we also need clarity from the new U.S. administration on its vision for Georgia,” she said.
Botchorishvili also expressed concern over recent U.S. legislative actions, notably the MEGOBARI Act, which she described as lacking in the spirit of friendship.
“We cannot overlook the implications of the so-called MEGOBARI Act. It sends troubling signals. We need to hear directly from the White House about how they intend to shape relations with Georgia going forward. Once again, I stress: this partnership is of the highest importance to us, and it demands clearly defined positions,” she concluded.
