According to Galt & Taggart research, Georgia has become a net exporter in terms of fruit production, although the lack of storage and processing facilities is still on the agenda and technological development is still low.
In addition, as the "Galt & Taggart" analyst notes, the country has the potential to replace imports in the production of vegetables.
"The coefficient of self-sufficiency in this direction is 75%. In some cultures, this indicator is higher, while in others - it is lower; although it is clear that vegetables have the highest potential for import substitution. Naturally, seasonality matters here. In the case of fruits and vegetables, it is necessary that the seasonality, which characterizes the producers, should somehow be distributed throughout the whole year", - Mariam Chakhvashvili noted.
According to her, the main challenge of the agro sector is technological development and the ability to store products.
As for the crops that have a significant potential for export to the EU market, the analyst separates berries in this direction.
