Levan Davitashvili, the First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Georgia, emphasized that the government's forecast for growth in the domestic tourism sector in 2024 had been realized, with international tourism revenues reaching a "record" $4.425 billion. This figure represents a 7.3 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Davitashvili further noted that the fourth quarter of 2024, despite various challenges, proved to be highly productive, generating $963.7 million in revenues from the tourism sector, marking a 10.3 percent increase for the quarter. These remarks were made during a press briefing following a government meeting earlier in the day.
In discussing the source countries of tourism revenues, the Minister highlighted a significant 41 percent increase in revenues from Israeli visitors, totaling $128 million. Revenues from Azerbaijan also saw an 18 percent increase, while countries such as Iran and members of the European Union contributed an additional $21 million in tourism revenue, according to Davitashvili.
However, the Minister also pointed out a 9.4 percent decline in visitors from Russia, resulting in $88 million in tourism revenue, and an 18.9 percent decrease from Ukraine, amounting to $148 million. Additionally, there was a modest three percent decline in tourism revenues from Turkey.
In addition to the financial indicators, Davitashvili revealed that 2024 had seen a "record number" of tourist visits to Georgia, with the total reaching 5.1 million.
