Georgia's inflation rate calculated using EU methodology reached 2.4% in December

In 2022, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) introduced the publication of a new indicator, the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).
According to Geostat, the inflation rate for December 2024, calculated using the HICP methodology, was 2.4%. This figure is 0.5 percentage points higher than the 1.9% inflation rate determined using the national methodology.
The HICP methodology also provides a breakdown of percentage changes for individual components compared to the same period in 2023, as follows:
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 3.1%
- Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 6.1%
- Clothing and footwear: -1.8%
- Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels: -2.8%
- Furniture, household items, and home maintenance/repair: 1.5%
- Healthcare: 4.4%
- Transport: -1.4%
- Communication: -12.3%
- Recreation, entertainment, and culture: 2.3%
- Education: 5.4%
- Hotels, cafes, and restaurants: 8.7%
- Miscellaneous goods and services: 6.1%.
