Georgia Resumes Electricity Exports in May, But Annual Outlook Weakens

In May 2025, Georgia resumed electricity exports, generating $9.2 million in revenue, according to data from the State Electrosystem. A total of 187.67 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity was exported during the month—a notable decline compared to over 311 million kWh exported in May 2024.
Turkey remained the dominant importer, receiving 172.3 million kWh, while a smaller portion of exports went to Armenia.
Despite the restart of exports, analysts project an overall decrease in electricity exports for the year. Mariam Chakhvashvili, Head of Research at Galt & Taggart, cited falling electricity prices in Turkey and weakening demand from the Turkish market as key factors behind the expected decline.
