During the New Silk Way business forum in Kazakhstan, the heads of the railway companies from Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan signed a joint action plan to improve train transit and cut travel times along the Middle Corridor.
According to Georgian Railways, the plan was developed by a joint working group formed by all three countries. This group conducted a thorough physical inspection and analysis of the entire route—from Altynkol in Kazakhstan to the Black Sea ports—to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
The agreement focuses on removing barriers across the corridor, including infrastructure, operational, and logistical issues. It also aims to streamline customs procedures to speed up transit.
The action plan includes clear deadlines and assigns responsibility to specific agencies for each step. Georgian Railways said the agreement marks a key step in strengthening regional cooperation, increasing transit capacity, and improving freight links between Europe and Asia.
