“Cross-border trade is intense”, - the chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) David Narmania said on the air of Business Partner program.
"We import electricity from neighboring countries, as well as export it to Turkey and Armenia during periods of surplus. We have gas imports from Azerbaijan, also from Russia, though with very insignificant amount, to balance the system. In addition, electricity is transported through our country Georgia, so Georgia is an important energy player in the region in terms of both exports and imports," - David Narmania stated.
As for the new rules and procedures in the context of the European integration, according to the chairman of the GNERC, “the new rules are being drawn up regarding the cross-border trade, which will regulate these issues based on the European approaches.”
"Only three rules remained acceptable. These are: the cross-border trade rules, the network rules and some balancing issues, thus, that the regulatory commission will practically complete the formation of a new regulatory framework, which we started at the end of 2019, after the parliament had approved a new law on energy and water supply,"- David Narmania explained.
To be informed, the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) has adopted more than 30 European experience-based new rules and regulations in the last two years.
