
The Consulate General of Georgia in Milan was officially inaugurated with a ceremonial event at the historic Visconti Palace, coinciding with the celebration of Georgia’s Independence Day.
The ceremony began with the national anthems of Georgia and Italy, setting a solemn and respectful tone.
In his keynote speech, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.
“We are proud of the friendship that exists between Georgia and Italy. The opening of the Consulate General in Milan is a testament to our close relations and will further strengthen our partnership,” he stated.
Other distinguished speakers included Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala, Milan Prefect Claudio Sgaraglia, and Marco Alparone, Vice President of the Lombardy Region.
Mayor Kaladze highlighted the personal and national significance of Milan, noting that the new consulate would not only deepen bilateral relations but also enhance services for Georgian citizens living in Italy.
“Milan is the city where many of my dreams came true,” he remarked.
Mayor Giuseppe Sala praised the enduring bond between Georgia and Italy and acknowledged the Georgian community’s contributions to Milan’s cultural life.
“Georgia has a vibrant and active diaspora in Italy, which plays a key role in enriching Milan’s modern life,” he said.
Vice President Alparone underlined the growing cooperation between the two countries, especially in economic development, environmental sustainability, and tourism.
The event concluded with a cultural performance by the renowned Georgian ensemble “Basiani,” offering guests a taste of Georgia’s rich musical heritage within the historic halls of the Visconti Palace.
