The Ministry of Defence of Georgia has officially launched the NATO-Georgia Exercise 2025 at the Joint Military Centre in Krtsanisi. The opening ceremony featured remarks by Deputy Minister of Defence Giorgi Liluashvili, Deputy Commander of the Defence Forces Major General Zaza Chkhaidze, and NATO Military Liaison Officer Colonel Berat Telli, who praised the efforts of both Georgian and international participants and emphasized the exercise’s strategic importance.
Notable attendees included Minister of Defence Grigol Giorgadze, Deputy Commander of the Defence Forces Brigadier General Irakli Chichinadze, defence attachés from allied countries, NATO Liaison Office Head Alexander Vinnikov, and representatives from the NATO-Georgia Substantial Package (SNGP) and the EU Monitoring Mission.
This marks the fourth iteration of the NATO-Georgia Exercise, held triennially in Georgia. The 2025 edition is a computer-assisted, brigade-level command and staff exercise designed to train multinational forces in crisis response operations under Georgian leadership. It integrates both field components and multinational staff coordination, highlighting the command and control capabilities of the NATO-Georgian Joint Training and Evaluation Centre (JTEC).
Co-organized by NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and Georgia’s General Staff, the exercise follows NATO doctrines and scenarios. Seventeen NATO member and partner countries are participating, including the U.S., UK, France, Germany, Turkey, and several Eastern European and partner nations such as Armenia, Moldova, and Tunisia.
The exercise supports six key initiatives under the NATO-Georgia Essential Package, including military engineering, special operations, and medical capabilities. Specific units being evaluated include the Special Operations Battalion HQ, Military Police Battalion, EOD teams, Medical Company (ROLE 2F), and the 12th Battalion “Charlie” Company of the 1st Infantry Brigade.
