The National Bank of Georgia and the Ministry of Finance hosted the Steering Committee meeting of the IMF’s Caucasus, Central Asia, and Mongolia Capacity Development Center (CCAMTAC). The event gathered committee members from across the region, donor organizations, and IMF officials including Subir Lall, Deputy Director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department, and Andrew Jewell, IMF Resident Representative in Georgia.
The meeting reviewed CCAMTAC’s past activities and outlined plans for the coming year, focusing on regional workshops, financial resources, and upcoming initiatives.
First Vice President of the National Bank of Georgia, Ekaterine Mikabadze, underscored the importance of the IMF’s continued support, noting that CCAMTAC plays a key role in strengthening macroeconomic resilience in the region. She highlighted the launch of the Educational Space project, initiated by NBG President Natia Turnava, as a platform for knowledge-sharing across regional central banks.
CCAMTAC Director Norbert Funke praised Georgia’s active role in the center’s work, particularly in sharing best practices in monetary policy and hosting peer learning events.
Subir Lall emphasized CCAMTAC’s value as a pillar of IMF engagement in the region, crediting Georgia for its leadership and commitment to fostering cooperation and open dialogue among member countries.
CCAMTAC, established in 2021 in Almaty, is a joint initiative between the IMF and nine countries, serving a region of over 100 million people with a focus on strengthening economic capacity and policy development.
