At a recent economic forum focused on Georgia’s investment policy and future opportunities, First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, emphasized the country’s strong economic performance and commitment to long-term growth.
“Our policy is centered on economic expansion. Since the pandemic, Georgia has maintained an average annual growth rate of approximately 9.7%—more than double the average for EU candidate countries,” Davitashvili stated. “This is one of the highest growth rates in the broader region and must be sustained, especially given today’s volatile international climate and Georgia’s close ties to global economic processes.”
He highlighted that Georgia attracted over $5 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) between 2022 and 2024, with notable diversification both in terms of investor countries and the sectors receiving investment.
“It’s crucial that these investments are high-quality, have long-term spillover effects, and contribute to qualitative advancements across various sectors,” Davitashvili noted.
He also pointed out that FDI currently accounts for around 6% of Georgia’s GDP—one of the highest ratios globally among economies similar in size and structure. “We aim to maintain this benchmark in the years ahead,” he added.
Davitashvili spoke in depth about Georgia’s business environment and the importance of maintaining investor confidence. He emphasized that mutual trust between the public and private sectors is key to navigating both current and future challenges.
“International investors base their decisions on fundamental macroeconomic indicators—like credit ratings. While political factors do play a role and can pose risks, these are often offset by Georgia’s stable economic performance,” he explained. “That’s the main factor helping us sustain a high level of FDI.”
With a solid growth trajectory, increasing investor interest, and a resilient economic policy framework, Georgia is positioning itself as a rising investment hub in the region.
