
May 26 marks Georgia’s Independence Day, commemorating the country’s declaration of independence on this day in 1918.
The central celebration will take place at Freedom Square in Tbilisi, beginning at 11:00 a.m., according to the Georgian Ministry of Defense. A final dress rehearsal for the ceremonial event was held on May 25, led by the Commander of the Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili, alongside senior military officials who reviewed final preparations.
The ceremony will include the participation of conscripts from the National Military Service, who will take their military oath in a solemn atmosphere at Freedom Square. In addition, oath-taking ceremonies will be held at five other historic locations across the country.
As part of the day’s events, the public will have the opportunity to view military equipment, weapons, and gear in 21 cities and municipalities, including Tbilisi, Gori, Akhaltsikhe, Mtskheta, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Ozurgeti, Poti, Khoni, Ambrolauri, Batumi, Telavi, Akhalkalaki, Marneuli, Senaki, Samtredia, Bagdati, Chkhorotskhu, Abasha, and Martvili.
The ceremony at Freedom Square will conclude with a flyover by aircraft from the Air Defense and Aviation Command.
Additional Independence Day celebrations and public events will also be held at Orbeliani Square throughout the day.
