
August 24 is established as the Day of Constitution in Georgia. On August 24, 1995, the then-composition of the Parliament adopted the supreme law of the country. The Constitution entered into force in 1995 on the day of the recognition of the powers of the newly elected Parliament.
On August 24, 1995, the Parliament of Georgia approved a new edition of the constitution, according to which Georgia was recognized as an independent, united and indivisible state in the entire territory of the country, including the Tskhinvali region and the autonomy of Abkhazia.
On February 16, 1993, the Head of State and at the same time the Chairman of the Parliament, Eduard Shevardnadze, submitted a proposal to the Parliament regarding the creation of the State Constitutional Commission of Georgia, which subsequently developed the supreme law. The group consisted of 118 members.
