Georgia’s First Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili, currently visiting Washington alongside the Finance Minister and the President of the National Bank, reported on a comprehensive meeting held at the U.S. State Department. The discussions spanned the full scope of U.S.-Georgia cooperation, with a shared emphasis on future collaboration.
"While we openly addressed the challenges that have strained our relationship in recent years, the main focus was on areas where our visions align—particularly under the new U.S. administration, which shares Georgia’s outlook on key issues," Davitashvili stated.
He also highlighted a series of productive meetings with international financial institutions aimed at securing continued funding for major development projects in Georgia. Emphasizing the strategic importance of ongoing global support, Davitashvili noted that engagement with the new U.S. administration remains a top priority.
“In parallel to our core meetings, we are holding bilateral discussions with relevant U.S. agencies, beginning with the State Department,” he said. “Establishing clear political alignment is essential for advancing various cooperation initiatives, especially those related to economic development.”
Davitashvili reaffirmed the Georgian government’s dedication to a constructive, forward-looking agenda and stressed the need to translate strategic alignment into actionable plans.
“Our approach received unanimous backing—particularly from the State Department—which aligns closely with the priorities of the current administration,” he added. “Beyond the State Department, we’ve extended our dialogue to include the Commerce and Treasury Departments, and we are scheduled to meet with the U.S. Trade Representative and continue high-level discussions at the White House.”
He also pointed out that with the U.S. administration having been in office for less than three months, many of its policies are still taking shape—an important factor in the timing and tone of the ongoing talks.
