Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, during his official visit to Georgia. The visit coincides with the sixth session of the Bilateral Intergovernmental Economic Commission, which both ministers co-chair.
The meeting focused on strengthening economic and trade ties between the two nations, with particular emphasis on transport, logistics, civil aviation, and tourism. Türkiye remains Georgia’s top trading partner and a leading foreign investor.
Special attention was given to the transport sector, underscoring its strategic role in Georgia's socio-economic growth. Both sides discussed optimizing the countries’ transit potential and advancing Georgia’s position as a regional logistics hub.
A key topic was the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route—also known as the Middle Corridor—which is increasingly seen as vital for enhancing connectivity between Europe and Asia. The ministers agreed on the importance of making the corridor more competitive and attracting additional cargo flow. They also reaffirmed their commitment to fully activating the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.
Mariam Kvrivishvili shared Georgia’s broader transport and infrastructure vision, highlighting progress on major national projects, including railway modernization, the East-West highway, Anaklia Deep Water Port, the upcoming Tbilisi International Airport, and other strategic developments.
Civil aviation emerged as another top priority. In the first half of 2025, direct regular flights between Georgia and Türkiye carried over 615,000 passengers—a 5.97% increase from the same period in 2024. Currently, four Turkish airlines operate more than 100 weekly flights, with discussions underway for Turkish Airlines to launch a new route to further stimulate tourism and aviation cooperation.
Türkiye remains the second-largest source of international visitors to Georgia, with over 1.3 million Turkish travelers arriving in 2024.
The ministers also reviewed opportunities for collaboration in other sectors, including investment, land transportation, maritime affairs, railways, and hydrography.
Minister Kvrivishvili extended an invitation to Minister Uraloğlu to participate in the fifth International Silk Road Forum, scheduled to take place in Tbilisi on October 22–23.
The meeting was attended by Georgian Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development Guram Guramishvili and Genadi Arveladze, along with Georgia’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Archil Kalandia.
