
Within the framework of the 33rd regular session of the General Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a memorandum of mutual recognition was signed between Georgia and the Republic of Turkey, according to which, the parties recognized the certificates of seafarers engaged in coastal navigation. In particular, as the memorandum reads, sailors certified in Georgia will be able to be employed on ships involved in the Turkish coastal shipping and vice versa.
,,At the meeting held prior to the signing ceremony, Aleksi Akhvlediani, the Director of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, along with the delegation of the Republic of Turkey, discussed the priority directions of the current and future cooperation in the maritime sector between the two countries. The parties expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation both in terms of education, training and certification of seafarers, as well as ensuring safe sailing in the Black Sea region. The conversation also touched on the appointment of ferry service between Georgia and Turkey.
