Levan Davitashvili, Georgia’s First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, held a high-level meeting with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar, to explore new avenues for strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place during Davitashvili’s official visit to Qatar, where he is leading the Georgian delegation at the Fifth Qatar Economic Forum. The event, held under the patronage of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and supported by Bloomberg, has brought together over 2,500 global leaders, including senior representatives from Gulf nations.
“We had a very productive meeting with the Prime Minister of Qatar, covering cooperation in investment, tourism, and trade,” Davitashvili stated. “The Qatari government maintains a very positive attitude toward Georgia. I expect high-level bilateral visits to take place this year, further strengthening our economic partnership.”
During the forum, Davitashvili and Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili also held meetings with representatives from other Gulf countries to explore broader economic collaboration.
Georgia and Qatar have maintained a bilateral investment promotion and protection agreement since 2022, alongside a broader economic, trade, and technical cooperation framework. According to Davitashvili, Qatari investments in Georgia reached approximately $50 million in 2024, with expectations of continued growth.
“Economic and investment cooperation with Persian Gulf countries is a key priority. Qatar is emerging as a significant partner,” Davitashvili noted.
As part of his Gulf tour, Davitashvili also met with Faisal Bin Fadhil Alibrahim, Minister of Economy and Planning of Saudi Arabia. The two discussed launching a formal cooperation platform involving both countries' business communities and overseen by their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economy.
“This platform has strong potential to enhance trade and investment cooperation,” Davitashvili said.
The Georgian delegation is scheduled to continue its official meetings tomorrow with Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, to address key issues in trade, investment, energy, tourism, transport, and communications.
