Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with Greece’s Minister of Maritime Affairs, Vassilis Kikilias, during the IMO Assembly in London. Deputy Minister Tamar Ioseliani also took part in the meeting.
The two sides emphasized their long-standing, successful partnership in the maritime sector. Kvrivishvili noted that Greece has long been a key partner, particularly in employing highly qualified Georgian seafarers on Greek-owned vessels, and highlighted the potential for deeper cooperation in various areas.
The meeting recalled the longstanding legal framework underpinning maritime ties: the 1997 Merchant Shipping Agreement and the 2014 memorandum recognizing Georgian seafarers’ certificates, which supports their employment on ships under the Greek flag. Kvrivishvili thanked Greece and Greek shipowners for their continued support for Georgian seafarers’ employment and social protection.
